Sometimes, a patron will want to keep a book longer than the time they are initially granted. Patrons are allowed to request one renewal for an interlibrary loan item. This request must be made before the item is due. It is up to the lending library to determine whether or now the renewal is allowed.
Asking for the Renewal
- In ILLiad, find the transaction for the item that needs to be extended.
- Change the due date to what you would like the new due date to be. Typically this is two to three weeks from the initial due date.
- Save your changes.
- Click the “Renew Request” button.
- Click “Yes” on the pop up asking if you would like to override the restriction on renewals.
- Save your changes and close the request. Let the patron know we have asked for the renewal and will get back to them once we hear back from the lending library.
Awaiting Renewal OK Processing
- Double click to open the queue.
- Open the request.
- In the notes field, check the due date the school is allowing.
- Change the due date in ILLiad to a few days before the allowed due date (to allow time for shipping). Save your changes.
- Click the “Send Email” button and select “Renewal.”
- When the email pops up, click the “Send” button.
- In Millennium, renew the book for the new due date. You will need to override the restriction on ILL renewals. If Millennium gives you trouble with this, contact someone in circulation.
- Close the request.
Awaiting Renewal Denied Processing
- Double click to open the queue and request.
- Change the due date in the request back to the original due date.
- If the original due date has passed, change the due date in Millennium to the next full day the library is open.
- Contact the patron to let them know their renewal was denied and when the book is due.
- Route the request back to “Checked Out to Customer” in ILLiad.
