Posting a Student Job

Step 1: Fill out the Student Job Posting Form.

This form will communicate to the Libraries HR Manager that you have a student job you’d like to post. Please be as detailed as possible when filling out the form. Refer to the Undergraduate Student Employment Scale when considering pay.

Step 2: Wait to hear that the job has been posted.

After the form has been submitted, the Libraries HR Manager will post the job to the Libraries website and submit a test application to ensure that the hiring supervisor receives it.

Hiring an International Student

Step 1: Fill out the Student Action Form.

The Student Action Form is used for many types of HR action related to student employees (hire, termination, pay increase, etc.). Please select “New Hire” as your action on the form when trying to hire a student and fill out the necessary information.

Step 2: Complete the Employment Verification Letter. Make a copy to keep before giving it to the student. Forward copy to Kristy, HR Manager.

Step 3:  Make a copy of student’s Clemson ID. Forward copy to HR Manager.

Step 4:  The HR Manager must complete the International Hire Request in PeopleSoft.

Step 5: Student must take signed Employee Verification Letter to International Office in E307 Martin Hall (after the SEVIS record has been activated and before application for a SS card).

Step 6:  If the student does not have a Social Security card, he/she must visit Anderson office (4 Civic Center Blvd Extension, 1-877-505-4549) with Employee Verification Letter, original immigration papers, and a completed form for a social security card.

Anderson’s Social Security office hours are 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. Wednesday office hours are 9:00 a.m. to 12 noon. The office is closed on federal holidays http://www.ssa.gov/pgm/holidays.htmThe student must be present in the USA for 10 calendar days before he/she applies. Student must ask for a “Receipt Letter” from the Social Security office and return this “Receipt Letter” to the Clemson University Office of Human Resources at 108 Pearman Blvd.

Step 7:   Student must meet with Pablo Unda at 108 Pearman Blvd, Administrative Services Building, between 8:15 am and 11:45 am, or between 1:30 pm and 4:00 pm, Monday – Friday with the following documents:
♦ unexpired foreign passport and one complete copy of it
♦ F-1 Visa and one copy of it from www.cbp.gov/I94
♦ I-94 (either in index-card size in the passport or obtain printed copy at: www.cbp.gov/I94
♦ all original DS 2019’s (if J1 visa) and one copy of each
♦ all original I-20’s (if F1 visa) and one copy of each,
♦ Social Security card
♦ Employee Verification Letter for F-1 status signed by both hiring department and an advisor from the International Office in E307 Martin Hall after the SEVIS record has been activated and before application for a Social Security Card: http://media.clemson.edu/humanres/international/employment_verification_f-1.pdf

Step 8:  Await approval of student’s employment status.

Kristy will receive and forward an alert from Pablo Unda.
