An oldie but goodie in Clemson Universities Libraries, Laurie Varenhorst was hired as a library technical assistant in 1985 to help process the Strom Thurmond Papers. Since that time many moons ago, Laurie works as an archivist to help acquire, organize, arrange and preserve the records of the university. However, she has worked on several non-related university collections in the past, e.g., the George B. Hartzog, Jr. Papers, the man who served as the seventh director of the National Park Service for nine years, 1964 to 1972. In addition, Laurie helps provide reference service on all resources in Special Collections and Archives.
A private person originally from the Midwestern part of the United States, Laurie graduated from Lander College with a B.S. in Business Administration [and unofficial minor in history] in 1984. Twenty years later she earned a Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) through the University of South Carolina’s distance education in 2004. Her favorite actor/TV show/character/book series include Benedict Cumberbatch, Sherlock, John Harrison (Khan) (“Star Trek Into Darkness”), and the Maisie Dobbs mystery books by Jacqueline Winspear.
