Dean’s Update 2/27/19

A few brief updates for a rainy Wednesday.

  1. I presented to the OADC (Academic Department Chairs) this morning, again sharing some of what we have been doing and learning and also sharing updates on current and planned Libraries projects (see attached).  Lots of good questions in particular about TigerPrints and depositing materials.
  2. We are in the process of advertising the Programming and Outreach Diversity Resident Librarian position.
  3. I met with Clemson Facilities and representatives from ADM (custodial contractor) this morning to share expectations regarding custodial services in Cooper.   They are currently two custodians down on the evening crew, but are in the process of replacing them.  We should have 8 people dedicated to Cooper working in three shifts.  I have asked that they focus their work on the public areas of the library, particularly the public restrooms, fourth and fifth floors.  This may mean less attention to individual office spaces.  We’ll see.  The bottom line is that we are revising the expectations and I am hopeful we will (finally) see progress and improvement in this area.
  4. In other news, Facilities will also be reviewing the air handling in the individual fourth floor and staff restrooms on third floor.  Currently there do not seem to be any exhaust fans or any airflow to speak of in the space which makes them less than habitable.  Hopefully we’ll see improvements here as well.  Teri will keep you up-to-date as changes.
