Use, Duplication, & Publication of Materials

Clemson University Libraries is committed to supporting research, teaching, scholarship, publication, and artistic production involving use of the Special Collections Library materials.

The Library’s consent as owner of rare, original materials does not address copyright issues that may affect publication right. Although images posted by the Library are believed to have no known copyright or other restrictions, it is the sole responsibility of the user or recipient of copies of Special Collections Library materials to investigate the copyright state to any given work and to seek and obtain permission where needed prior to any distribution or publication.

Researchers assume full responsibility for any infringement of copyright or publication rights belonging to the author, his or her heirs, or assigns, which may be involved in the use of manuscripts or other records.

With the exception of brief extracts, researchers are further cautioned to obtain written permission from the Special Collections Library to publish any unpublished material.

The University Libraries does not, by granting this permission, relinquish its own right to publish material or to permit other persons to publish or quote therefrom.

Any permission granted will be for one-time, non-exclusive use of material.
